Raleigh's wine scene has honestly gotten quite the upgrade recently, so we though it was time for a short guide. Whether you're into bold reds, natural orange wines, or you just want some bubbly, we've got the list narrowed down for you. Plus, no need to be a sommelier (I'm sure you have your own list if you are) and glasses here can fit every budget. We will have some thoughts if we see you with the boxed wine though, but we support it nonetheless.
We curate these picks based on a mix of personal visits, local community feedback, review sentiment online, and what we're hearing from our readers.
We also factor in diversity, neighborhood spread, and price range so this list caters to everyone. Every restaurant here earned its place for a variety of reasons and rankings are (of course) subjective.

Opening in October 2025, this European Coffee & Wine Bar offers a genuine experience, focused on the highest quality wines and wine pairings. One of our favorite things about Vino is the outdoor seating area, which also has fire pits you can circle up around with your friends.
They partner with Black & White Coffee Roasters (find them downtown a well) and start serving at 10AM daily. We recommend that you park on W. Johnson St and back into the neighborhood across St. Marys St where allowed as well, Gaston Street can be a bit cramped.
Overall, Vino is one of the most promising new spots here in Raleigh and it's just far enough off the main Glenwood South strip to offer a fairly laid back experience.
🍷 Unique Wine Finds: Vino specializes in rare, hard-to-find wines often not seen at other Raleigh spots.
🔥 Fire Pit Appeal: Cozy outdoor fire pits with warm blankets are perfect for chilly evenings, especially popular after sunset.
☕ Coffee Excellence: Coffee at Vino rivals top roasters locally and is a standout even among wine offerings.
🪑 Variety Seats: Comfortable leather booths and bar seating provide options for both intimate dates and small groups.

With a dedicated classroom, The Raleigh Wine Shop is one of the only spots in town to learn from an award winning staff on wine, food pairings, and more. We added it to the list because of their focus on "honestly made, artisanal wines from around the world... with a focus on value at all prices".
Another perk, especially if you live nearby, is their Sir Walt's Wine Club with store discounts, monthly wine packages, and even some discounts on classes and private events.

While subjective, Barcelone Wine Bar tends to be the most popular but our choice for best local spot is The Raleigh Wine Spot.
While Natural Wines are a bit of a wide open category, DRINK on Glenwood South prides itself on finding family and small production wines, so they would be a good spot to start.
Any of these would truly work depending on the vibe you're after but a traditional date spot on this list would likely be Barcelona, Vita Vite, or The Raleigh Wine Shop (for the vibes especially).
There are a few outside of downtown, primarily Foxcroft, Vita Vite, Vinos Finos, and St. Pierre Wine Shop or Pourworks for something near Iron Works.
Foxcroft has monthly tastings, Raleigh Wine Shop offers private group tastings as well as classes, Vitis House is a dedicated Wine School, and DRINK mostly revolves around a community based "drink & discuss" vibe on any given night.
